The concept of Sadboymommyissues initially began as an Instagram account meant to express my feelings while going through a deep depression and trying to get sober. Prior to creating the account I had already filled a sketchbook with autobiographical and fictional doodles from the past year, that I had done during multiple stays in psych wards and rehab facilities. Since then Sadboymommyissues has shifted toward a project that cathartically expresses my thoughts, feelings and experiences to the public. My decision to share this side of myself came after meeting people who identified with my art but didn't feel comfortable enough expressing that part of themselves to those around them. Currently, I hope my work is able to create a dialogue with the public through blunt, dark and emotionally charged messages, images, and black humor. The aim of which is to help others to accept and identify the parts of themselves and their loved one that share these emotions. My hope is that this cathartic expression of myself is able to aid in de-stigmatizing mental illness, addiction, and any other feelings or experiences that society feels uncomfortable acknowledging. Sadboymommyissues is solely trying to allow people to identify with others and express themselves honestly. In no way does Sadboymommyissues aim to push people to address any issues, feelings, etc. they may have. Instead, the object of my work is to identify with others and express my own experiences.
